About Pastors Gregory and Carol Fryer

Pastors Carol and Gregory Fryer met in seminary days, at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, PA, and were married in the seminary chapel back in 1982. Their great teacher, theologian Robert W. Jenson, now of blessed memory, presided at their wedding. Pastor Carol’s father, Rev. Carl Anderson, also now of blessed memory, preached at the wedding, and Pastor Gregory’s classmate theologian David S. Yeago, served as Assisting Minister for the wedding. Pastors Carol and Gregory like people to have good memories of their weddings. They certainly do!

Pastors Carol and Gregory began their ministry as co-pastors of a little country two-point parish in south York County, PA. That is where their two sons, Sam and David, were born. Pastors Carol and Gregory loved serving together and hoped they would end their ministry serving together again. That has happened. Pastor Carol joined the staff of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the summer of 2019. She now serves as Associate Pastor while also serving as Missions Specialist for the North American Lutheran Church (NALC).

Pastor Gregory Paul Fryer grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He has been pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church since 1991. He and Pastor Carol together serve on the “Commission for Theology and Doctrine” for the North American Lutheran Church (NALC). Pastor Gregory has served on the Board of the American Lutheran Publicity Bureau (ALPB) http://alpb.org/ and as Executive Director the Center for Catholic and Evangelical Theology (CCET) https://www.pro-ecclesia.org/. His email address is gpfryer (at) gmail.com

Pastor Carol Elizabeth Anderson Fryer was born in Denver, Colorado and lived her first ten years there. She will always love the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Her father, Pastor Carl Anderson, was a Lutheran minister from the old Augustana Synod (the Swedish synod here in America.) During their years in New York City, Pastor Carol served on the staff of Saint Peter’s Church, at the base of the Citicorp Building, and as Director of Pastoral Care for Wartburg, Mount Vernon, NY, which is a Lutheran community for the elderly. After nearly twelve years at Wartburg, she was called to Immanuel in 2019.

Pastor Carol loves to sew and knit and to write icons. Here is one of her icons. It is of St. John Chrysostom — a preaching hero for Pastor Gregory:

In addition to her Master of Divinity Degree from Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary, Pastor Carol also has a Master of Sacred Theology degree from General Theological Seminary. This degree reflects her commitment to prayer and spiritual direction. Her email address is ceafryer (at) gmail.com
