Meals on Heels

Every Saturday since 1987, volunteers from the Immanuel congregation, and their friends and associates, have provided a hot meal to shut-ins referred to Immanuel's Meals on Heels program by Search and Care, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to help frail and isolated older people live safely and independently in their own homes on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Two teams handle the weekly meals program: those who cook and those who deliver. Cooks prepare from 12 to 22 meals consisting of a hot entree, vegetable and dessert. Tins are provided, and the program coordinator adds bread and milk. Delivery teams take the tins to each of the participant's apartments on Saturday morning.
